The importance of the help of the Holy Spirit in prayers.

1. When we pray The Holy Spirit brings to our mind those things we might have forgotten –

John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and BRING ALL THINGS TO YOUR REMEMBRANCE, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

2. He helps us to come to know Jesus i.e. he makes Jesus real in our life.

John 16:14-15, “HE SHALL GLORIFY ME: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

3. He is our alert system. He earns us of unforeseen dangers that we don’t know about when we pray or as a result of prayer i.e. many things are adverted in the place of prayer but the ones we are aware of and the ones we know nothing about.

John 16:13, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

4.  He helps pray for a future we cannot yet envisage

John 16:13, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

5. The Holy Spirit reminds us to pray despite our busy schedules and activities.

John 14:26, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and BRING ALL THINGS TO YOUR REMEMBRANCE, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

6. The Holy Spirit gives us a desire to pray/ study the word. He wants us to experience his presence.

Galatians 5:16-17, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

7. The Holy Spirit gives us the utterances or words to pray because He knows us better than anyone else. No one can intercede for us better than the Holy Spirit. He helps us in our weakness when we no not what we suppose to pray for.

Romans 8:26, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

8. When we pray the Holy Spirit helps us to submit our wills and desire to God. His will become our will and his desires becomes our design. We become God minded i.e. having the mind of God.

Romans 8:27, “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

9. The Holy Spirit gives us the strength to continue in prayer. To be faithful and steadfast throughout our Christian journey.

Jude 1:20, “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost”.

10. The Holy Spirit helps us to remain focus during prayer and not to be carried away by internal distractions that plays in our minds i.e. He guides our hearts into all truth. He helps to see light even in the mist of darkness or troubles that may cloud our thoughts.

John 16:13, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”

11. The Holy Spirit transform us when we pray. We are full of weakness and one fault or the other but when will give ourselves to prayer the Holy Spirit works on all those things that are not Christ like and work in the very nature of God. As long as we continually give ourselves to prayer the Holy Spirit transform those bad habits and character

2 Corinthians 3:16-18, “Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

12. The Holy Spirit quickens (make alive/ give life to) our mortal bodies when we pray i.e. even when we are tired or do not feel like praying but the moment will allow the Holy Spirit to take over or ask for His help, he gives life to our tired or weak body.

Romans 8:11, “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

13. The Holy Spirit through prayer and the word help us to mortify the deeds of the flesh.

Romans 8:13, “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”

14. He helps us pray about things we know nothing about. The Holy Spirit is our intercessor, he helps us in prayer just as he helps us in every areas of our lives.

Romans 8:26-27, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

15. The Holy Spirit helps to eliminate selfish in our prayers

Romans 12:2, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
